Ghanzi is a town in the middle of the Kalahari Desert the western part of the Republic of Botswana in southern Africa. The region is the country's pride in contributing a large portion towards the beef industry.
We will be visiting the Bushman and they will take us on a educational guided walk .The walk focuses on the beauty of the culture and the knowledge carried from one generation to the next.
The ancestors of the hunter-gatherer Sān are thought to have been the first inhabitants of what is now Botswana and South Africa. The historical presence of the San in Botswana is particularly evident in northern Botswana's Tsodilo Hills region.
After an early start, we travel from desert to greener enviroment. We will arrive at our Lodge in the early afternoon, having changed to 4-wheel drive during the last part of the trip in order to make it through the tough road.
Our Lodge is situated along the banks of the Guma Lagoon in the northwestern Okavango Delta. It is part of the Okavango Panhandle, a stretch of the Okavango River that follows a more-or-less straight course for about 70 kilometres before entering the wetlands. This deep channel serves as the main water source feeding the delta and the surrounding woodlands and the river's shallow waters teem with a myriad of birds.
The lodge and their assistants will prepare a tasty dinner and we fall asleep to the sound of night birds and perhaps one or two hippos out there in Botswana's Okavango delta.
Today we will be awakened by a cacophony of bird sounds, where different species succeed one another as it gets lighter. After breakfast, we will move out into the delta, first by motorboat and then by canoe – mokoros.
Standing in the mokoros, skillfully balancing, our polers will take us through the shallow, clear water out to one of the many islands. We will travel through lush vegetation, alternating between narrow and open stretches of water. We might see an elephant or two on one of the nearby islands. If we so wish, we can stop for a swim in a suitable location. We will go ashore and enjoy a nature walk with our guide. Here we might encounter some of the wildlife that lives in the delta, including red lechwes, warthogs and elephants. We return to our camp for dinner after a day full of adventure.
Today we will leave Botswana and return to Namibia. We will drive to the lovely Mahango Game Reserve, where we will enjoy a game drive and try to find the beautiful sable antelope that occurs here. With some good luck we might spot species that we haven't yet seen on our safari, including buffalo and roan antelope. Our beautiful night camp will be next to the Okavango River with its rich bird life.
The Mahango Game Reserve is characterised by woodlands, vast floodplains and the Kavango River. It is home to a reported 99 species including a large number of elephant, lion, leopard and a variety of antelope including the red lechwe, sable and roan. This park is an excellent destination for avid bird watchers boasting over 400 species and provides the perfect location for seeing crocodile and hippo in the Kavango River.
It’s an early start for a game drive in Mahangu Game Park again ,the morning light offers excellent game viewing with the perennial waters of the river attracting plentiful wildlife including large herds of elephant, hippo, crocodile, red lechwe, zebra, impala, turtle, spotted-necked otter and over 400 species of bird.
The afternoon once more awaits us with great excitement of game viewing in the Bwabwata National. Bwabwata National Park is a protected area in northeastern Namibia that was established in 2007 and covers 6,274 km2 (2,422 sq mi). It was created by merging Caprivi Game Park and Mahango Game Reserve. It is situated in the Zambezi and Kavango East regions, extending along the Caprivi Strip. It is bounded by the Okavango River to the west and the Kwando River to the east. Angola lies to the north and Botswana to the south.
The area is an important migration route from Botswana to Angola for African elephant and some other game species.
This morning we will depart for the Chobe National Park in Botswana. We aim to arrive just in time for an afternoon boat cruise on the Chobe river, which is highly recommended.
The Chobe River forms the northern boundary of the Chobe National Park, renowned for its diverse and abundant game viewing opportunities. This section of the park is best known for its dense concentration of wildlife including elephant and hippo populations, but the waters attract all manner of game including large herds of buffalo and the lions that prey on them. A visit to this area guarantees close encounters with an array of African wildlife.
The lodge offers a spectacular morning game drive worth getting up early for in the Chobe National Park. The game drive takes about 3 hours with a coffee and tea break.
Chobe National Park is Botswana's first national park, and also the most biologically diverse. Located in the north of the country, it is Botswana's third largest park, after Central Kalahari Game Reserve and Gemsbok National Park, and has one of the greatest concentrations of game in all of Africa.
This morning we will cross the border once more into Zimbabwe. We will arrive at our Lodge in time for lunch, then visit the magnificent Victoria Falls. The noise of the Falls can be heard from a distance of 40 kilometers, while the spray and mist from the falling water can rise to a height of over 400 meters. Local tribes used to call the waterfall, Mosi-o-Tunya, “The smoke that thunders”. It is one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World and famous for being the largest waterfall in the world.
Today the rest of the day the guest can roam the Town and enjoy the off day. Guest can book themselves few activities to take part in. The recommended activity is the helicopter 12 min fly over the mighty Victoria falls. There will be time for extra activities including white water rafting, bungi jumping, elephant back rides and many more. Please talk to your guide for more information.
