About Us
Horseback Namibia was established by a culturally diverse and multi-lingual team of horse- and nature enthusiasts. We love to experience and explore the unique Namibian nature on healthy horseback. When the opportunity arose in early 2019, we moved our horses to Midgard Stables at Midgard Country Estate.
The 14,000-hectare farmland offers a variety of interesting terrains – including mountain trails, long sandy riverbeds, flat open spaces – and plenty of wildlife, including big herds of giraffe and wildebeest, and smaller groups of eland. Some zebras reside in the mountains; so do the leopards. Beautiful stable buildings and facilities for ambitious riders, including two dressage arenas, a show jumping course and a cross-country track are located close to the lodge. From 1985 until about 1997, Midgard was known as THE Namibian equestrian centre in neighbouring countries, regularly hosting major horse shows and events. In the 70s and 80s, Midgard Stud was well known for breeding Hanoverians.
The main stable building and paddocks were renovated in 2019. Refurbishment and expansion of other parts are planned for 2023. As a start-up, we feel privileged to work with O&L Leisure and be part of the exciting journey to reinvent history and – build back better – to gradually bring back some of the glory of the “old days”.
Karen – here on Amaretto – was the beautiful model for this photoshoot. You will hardly find her at Midgard Stables; instead, you will be welcomed by Isabel, Andrea, Stacey or any other member of the extended team.
Danro – here with Goldregen – is an experienced horseman and a qualified horse tour guide. Whether it is a dynamic ride into the game camp to observe wildlife or a calm and leisurely ride with beginners, he is always able to put together the right horse-rider pair and remain cool and calm whatever surprises come his or the riders way.
Uzuva – CheckItOut – is equally a member of the core team since day one. Having grown up with horses, he developed his own personal style of “horsemanship” and interacts amazingly easily with the herd. He specifically enjoys helping novice riders and teaching them how to handle the horses.
