Sossusvlei is situated in the largest conversation area in Africa and it is Namibia’s spectacular and important attraction. It is surrounded by large, white, salt and clay pan. Sossusvlei National Park is one of the greatest attractions year around.
The name etosha means ‘Great white place’, which is occupied by massive mineral pan. The pan now is a large dusty depression of salt and dusty clay which fills only if the rains are heavy.
The perennial springs along the edges of the Etosha pan draw a numerous of wildlife and birds.
The game viewing in Etosha park is excellent with spotting of Elephants, giraffes, Rhino and Lions. You can also see leopards and cheetahs.
The best time to visit the park would be from May to September, which is the cooler month in Namibia.
The national park was already declared a nature conservation area under German administration in 1907 by the governor.
The park has 5 natural and 27 artificial water holes on the western park and 29 natural and 12 artificial water holes found in the eastern park. These water holes serve animals and also tourists visiting for game viewing.
